QUEENSBURY — Shirley Louise (Brayton) Harris, 82, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at her home.
Born July 18, 1935, she grew up in Glens Falls. On July 25, 1954, Shirley and Ron Harris were married at Bay Road Presbyterian Church.
They raised their children and spent many happy years in the home they built on Bay Road. Shirley and Ron moved to Hudson Falls in their later years, where she remained after Ron’s passing in 2010. Shirley returned to Queensbury in 2016, living at Solomon Heights.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Harris; parents, Wilson H. and Blanche (Hicks) Brayton Gibbs; sister, Ann Bradley and brother, Hiram Brayton.
Shirley enjoyed working in retail, especially her job at The Children Store, and she also did some modeling work for Magrams. She loved spending time with her family, canning and making meals (especially her world famous spaghetti sauce), taking RV trips with Ron and their dogs, bowling with her sister Anne and friends, Leah and Joanie, and a really great steak. She had an incredibly artistic eye and expressed beauty in all the she drew, a flair for fashion and a great laugh. She had a beautiful heart and left wonderful impressions on the lives of those she touched. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Ken (Judy) Harris, and Randy (Maggie) Harris; daughter, Shawn Harris; her sisters, Barb (Ray) Neumann, Georgia Abry, Virginia Gibbs-McDowell; one brother, Tom Brayton; 11 grandchildren, Ashley (Patrick) Saville, Trista (Eric) Hartman, Elisha (Daril) Vilhena, Justin (Molly) Myers, Nathan Myers, Evan Myers, Riley Harris Burke, Elizabeth Harris, Hannah Harris, Marie (Greg) Daly and Rose (Andy) Demspter; and four Great Grandchildren, Owen Daly, Quinn Daly, Layla Demspter and Evangline Saville; one sister in law, Eleanor (Al) Oudekerk; several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday Dec. 10, at the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury.
Calling hours are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home prior to the service.
