GLEN LAKE — Richard W. Rourke, 74, of Jay Road, passed away, after a long illness on Sunday, June 18, 2017.
Born on April 5, 1943, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Whalen) Rourke.
Richard was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. While in high school, he broke the school high jump record. Richard then continued his education at Albany Business School. Following business school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served his country proudly.
On March 17, 1979, he married Susan (Korner) Fiato in Queensbury. Richard was a devoted husband to her for 43 years, until she passed away on Nov. 25, 2012.
Richard owned and operated R & R Lockers in Queensbury for 40 years. He also was a communicant of St. Mary’s-St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.
Richard enjoyed watching NASCAR, and participated in the White Water Derby for many years. Richard also had a love of Glen Lake, a place he called home for many years. He enjoyed downhill skiing, water skiing and car racing. Richard also was involved with the Band and Bugle Vagabonds.
Richard is survived by his brothers, Robert (Carol Higley) Rourke of Kattskill Bay and William (Tori) Rourke of Glen Lake and their son, William Rourke, Jr.; his daughter, Robin (Pat) Cronin of Queensbury and their children, Carrie and Ben; his sons, Daniel Fiato of Glens Falls and Michael (Sharon) Fiato of Hinckley, Ohio and their son, Jacob; and his special friend, Meg Loadholt of Ludlow, Massachusetts.
A calling hour will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will follow the calling hour at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
