GANSEVOORT — Richard D. Coffinger, 85, a resident of Jewell Road, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018 at the Vermont Veteran’s Home in Bennington, Vermont.
Born Feb. 23, 1933 in Northumberland, New York, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eleanor Boyce Coffinger.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had been a self-employed dairy farmer in Gansevoort for many years. He was a member of the Washington County Fair Farm Museum since 1989 and he enjoyed going to auctions.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Jr., Thomas and John Coffinger; one sister, Carol Huber; brother-in-law, Paul Vaughn; and sister-in-law, Barbara Coffinger.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virginia Booth Coffinger of Gansevoort; his children, Doreen (David) McQuade of Schaghticoke, Brenda (Glenn) Petteys of Hartford, Sherrie (Vincent) Petteys of Wilton, David (Lisa) Coffinger of Gansevoort and Grace Coffinger of Gansevoort; two sisters, Sandra Vaughn of Victory Mills and Janice (Jack) Garrison of West Virginia; sister-in-law, Joanne Coffinger of Clarks Mills; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, with R. Harry Booth officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Airway Meadows in Gansevoort, following the burial on Monday.
