July 22, 1952 — June 22, 2018
GALWAY — Paul E. Lent, 65, died Friday, June 22, 2018 after an accident on his farm in Galway.
Paul was born to Marjorie (Geary) Lent and Alan V. Lent in Corinth on July 22, 1952. After graduating from Corinth High School in 1970, he attended Grahm College in Boston with a degree in communications. He began his career as a deputy for the Saratoga County Sheriffs Department, later becoming Saratoga County Director of Emergency Services in the late 1980s and again in the 2000s. Paul's contributions to public safety were substantial; he helped institute the first 911 system in Saratoga County. In 2009, he was responsible for the digital 800 trunked radio system that brought true interoperability to all emergency services. For a short time, Paul worked in the private sector as a consultant with RCC and Crown Castle Communications.
After retirement from Saratoga County, he became Supervisor for the Town of Galway, being re-elected this past November. He was a member of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and the Assistant Draft Horse Superintendent for the Saratoga County Fair. He also served on the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County Board of Directors. He was a valuable member of the community who loved doing whatever he could to make the Town of Galway and Saratoga County a better place to live. Paul was a member of the Roman Catholic faith.
Paul chose July 22, 1995 to celebrate his birthday by marrying the love of his life, Sue Williams. In addition to Sue, his wife of 23 years, others left to cherish his memory are his children, Derek A. Lent of Corinth, Devon P. Lent of Lexington, Kentucky and Joanna (Lent) Loveland and son-in-law Joshua L. Loveland of Queensbury; sister, Jean Ward (Frank) of Corinth; brother, Alan Lent (Priscilla) of Lake Luzerne; and grandchildren, Lydia J. and Blaire L. Loveland, who were the true apples of his eye. Paul is also survived by several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Gail (Tom) Jay of Rotterdam, Shari Pens of Broadalbin and Joanne (Charles) Bailey of North Carolina; and brother-in-law, David (Theresa) Williams of Rotterdam. In addition to his loving family, he leaves behind many friends, including Juliana and Rick Potts, Julie, Mike and Sydney Carson and the Wednesday night dinner gang (Tom and Donna Armer, Eileen Beckwith, Phil and Lolly Arnold, Linda Garrison and Harry and Laurie Armer).
Paul will be joining his parents, Marjorie and Alan Lent, in heaven; and his brothers-in-law, Edward Pens and Malcolm Williams.
Paul always seemed to have the answer. He was a wealth of knowledge, leaving many wondering how he knew so much. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, with a service at 6 p.m. at the Galway Volunteer Fire Department, 1985 West St. Galway. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corinth, at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Galway Volunteer Fire Department or The Saratoga County Fair, 162 Prospect St. Ballston Spa, NY 12020; or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sonsussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
