GANSEVOORT — Michael J. Podkladek, 54, a resident of San Luis Rd., passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with GBM4, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Born Dec. 30, 1963 in Buffalo, New York he was the son of Walter “Butch” (Kathryn) Podkladek of Orchard Park and Dianne Felger (Reinhardt “Ron”) Fischer of Cheektowaga, New York.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force and then served with the Air Force Reserves at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base. He was employed by the NYS Thruway Authority for 26 years beginning as a toll collector in 1991 and then became a radio dispatcher for Troop T.
Mike actively coached a number of his children’s sports teams starting with OSAA, followed by Adirondack North Stars, Warning Track Heat, Schuylerville Heat and Arctic Foxes. He volunteered his time with the Schuylerville School Lacrosse Team and supported the school softball and football teams.
He was an avid sports fan, participating in fantasy sports leagues, and was a collector of sports memorabilia. His favorite teams were the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Baltimore Orioles, Arsenal FC and the LA Clippers.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife of 24 years, Beth Ann Podkladek of Gansevoort; his three children, Jordan, Callie and Braden Podkladek all of Gansevoort; two sisters, Shari Podkladek of Cheektowaga and Nicole Podkladek of Orchard Park; mother-in-law, Maryann Russillio of Akron, New York; sister-in-law, Donna (Roger) Hoeltke and brother-in-law, James (Laura) Russillio, all of Lancaster, New York; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his grand-dog Taco.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 Route 32N, Schuylerville with the Rev. Janet Vincent officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
