QUEENSBURY — Mary died gracefully Dec. 4, 2018 at the age of 92 at home. She was the last surviving member of the Ralph and Ella Ryan family of Milton, Vermont.

She was educated in the Vermont school system and graduated valedictorian of her class.

After the war, she married returning naval veteran Edward J. Barrett in 1947 in Milton, Vermont, and they started a family with son, Jim. Ed and Mary were married 64 years, until Ed’s death in 2011.

They moved to Glens Falls in the early ‘50s, and along came Pat and Bill. Mary started working retail when the kids got older and eventually with a small company called Glens Falls Driv-ur-self as a bookkeeper, which later evolved into a family business.

Upon retirement, Mary and Ed spent many years wintering in Florida, where she enjoyed playing bridge and occasional golf. Mary was a strong-minded, sharp woman and a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by two sons, Jim and Pat; and five grandchildren, Matt, Robert, Ryan, Kyle and Heather Barrett.

A graveside service will held at noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Pineview Cemetery. There will be a memorial gathering at her home, 105 Chestnut Ridge, Queensbury, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, for friends and family.
