GLENS FALLS — Mary Prunty LaPann, 60, passed away from breast cancer on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on Dec. 7, 1957 in Bronx County, to Thomas and Norah (Walsh) Prunty. Loved by many, Mary was a kind, upbeat, fun-loving, hardworking and driven individual. Mary was extremely generous of herself and her time and will be dearly missed by the many communities she was part of.
Mary ran a successful CPA practice prior to becoming a business professor at SUNY Adirondack Community College, where she has taught for the past 15 years. While there, she was an advisement counselor, business club adviser, served on the negotiation committee for the union, served as head of the assessment committee, was the treasurer for the union, the Chair of the Curriculum Committee and started the first Chapter of Toastmasters on the campus. Mary was very charitably inclined, serving as a founding member of the World Awareness Children’s Museum, a board member of TCT Federal Credit Union, a Trustee of Crandall Library and a volunteer at numerous local charities and homeless shelters.
She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Prunty. She is survived by her mother, Norah Prunty; her siblings, Thomas (Joanne) Prunty, Daniel (Moira) Prunty, Eileen Prunty, Michael Prunty and Sean (Jen) Prunty.
Mary is also survived by her loving children, Thomas (Diane) LaPann and Eileen LaPann.
Although being a mother was the most rewarding part of Mary’s life, she also enjoyed gardening, spending time on Lake George, visiting the Jersey Shore and traveling abroad.
A memorial service will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. Calling hours are to follow from noon to 3 p.m.
