WATERFORD — Martha “Marty” Belle McNeil, 99, of Waterford, formerly of Salem, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Marty was born Feb. 11, 1919 at home in Rupert, Vermont. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Nelson) McKeighan.
Marty graduated from Granville High School, Class of 1937 and Mildred Elley Business School, Albany in 1939. She always worked in the business world doing secretarial and general office work. She had many hobbies and crafts. She enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, crossword puzzles and family gatherings. Marty was a huge New York Mets fan.
Marty was always a willing volunteer collecting for various organizations.
She operated McNeil’s Market for a short time after the untimely death of her husband, Charles.
She retired from the Mary McClellan Hospital where she worked the late shift managing the office.
Besides her husband and parents, she is predeceased by three brothers, Nelson (Alice) McKeighan, Holden (Ruth) McKeighan, Sterling (Meta) McKeighan, and three sisters, Agnes (Raymond) Braymer, Doris (Frank) Ray, and Flora (Gordon) Franklin.
Marty is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Mary) McNeil of Hudson Falls, and Leigh (Pamela) McNeil of Waterford. She is also survived by one brother, Eli (Marge) McKeighan of Rupert, Vermont; four grandchildren, Kristy (Matthew) Brennan of Queensbury, Ryan McNeil of Watervliet, Tyler McNeil of Rensselaer, and Dean (Amy) Yoshimoto of Midlothian, Virginia; two great-granddaughters, Madison Brennan and McKenna Brennan of Queensbury. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marty had many friends and her quaint sense of humor will remain a pleasant memory.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to all the Hospice Angels at St. Peter’s who provided Marty with excellent care.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem with Rev. Sandra Spaulding officiating.
