HUDSON FALLS — John G. Eldred, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.

Born on Dec. 19, 1932 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Fred and Margaret Eldred.

John served in the Korean War as a sergeant, known as “Little John.” He also worked as a mounted sheriff for Warren County for many years. After retiring, he worked at Della’s as a shuttle driver for many years, where he met many people with whom he became good friends. Lately, he worked as a crossing guard and enjoyed greeting the children.

John loved working in his garden and going to the racino with his wife and daughter. He also enjoyed going up to his grandson’s camp and kayaking with the family. Everywhere he went, someone knew him. John will be remembered for being a people person.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert “Rob” Eldred.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Eldred; his oldest daughter, Diane and her husband, Jorge Caraballo, his son, John Eldred and his wife, Valerie, his daughter, Gail Eldred, and his son, Mark Eldred and his wife, Rachael; his grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher, Anthony and Chad Alden, Zack and Loren Eldred, John Jr. and Wayne Eldred, and Reginald and Nancy Reynolds; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also helped raise many foster children. He loved his dog, Little Girl.

Friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, following the calling hours.

John’s family would like to give a special thanks to the great nurses in the ICU at Glens Falls Hospital.
