SCHENECTADY -- Irv Dean Jr., 66, of Schenectady, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, of complications from lung cancer.
He was a veteran area journalist, working most recently as city editor, as well as a columnist and food critic, for The Daily Gazette in Schenectady.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Elander-Dean; six children, Brian Dean (Tammy) of Argyle, Marc Dean (Kathy) of Greenfield, Yvonne Gilbert (Matthew) of Argyle, Denise Humiston (Jared) of Argyle, Joshua Dean (Holly) of Glens Falls and Andre Dean of Fort Edward; five siblings, Gerry Mound of Moreau, Floyd Dean (Doreen) of Florida, Robert Dean (Lucy), Earl Dean (Linda) and James Dean (Janet), all of Glens Falls; and 12 grandchildren, Jacob Dean, Sawyer Dean, Marc Dean Jr., Jory Dean, Jared Dean, Madelyn, Olivia and Brendan Gilbert, Raegan and Wyatt Humiston, and Jonah and Piper Dean.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irving Dean Sr. and Mary (Livingston) Dean, and a sister, Ella (Mercurio) Dean.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Proctors in Schenectady or Community Hospice of Schenectady County.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
