VERO BEACH, Fla. — Earl F. Matte, age 93, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach, Florida. Born March 12, 1925, he was the son of John and Anna Matte.
Earl is survived by his wife, Joan, and three sons, Stephen, Jeffrey and Robert. He was predeceased by his son, Michael. Earl also has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Earl was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy from 1942-1945. A graduate of Siena College in 1949, he then graduated from Syracuse College of Law in 1952. He was admitted to practice law in New York State in 1952 and practiced for 38 years in Glens Falls. A longtime member of the Warren County Bar Association, he also served as president. He served as Glens Falls city court judge for seven years, delegate to the New York Bar Association for five years and Glens Falls city attorney for two years.
An avid tennis player, Earl served as president of the Glens Falls Tennis and Swim Club, president of the YMCA and was a member of the Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club in Vero Beach, plus played USTA amateur tournaments at the national, regional and state levels. Earl was at home in court or on the court!
