August 7, 1934 — November 25, 2018
CENTER RUTLAND, Vt. — Dorothy Snow (Dottie) Vilmar, 84, of Center Rutland, Vermont, and Bolton Landing, New York, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 following a short illness.
Dottie was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey and moved to Mahwah, New Jersey with her twin brother Douglas and sister Jean, where they were raised by their aunt.
Dottie spent her summers at her aunt’s camp on Lake George, developed a deep love of the lake and made many lifelong friends in Bolton Landing. This was her “happy place” and she would pass on her love for her beautiful lake to her children and grandchildren.
She married Donald P. Vilmar on Feb. 9, 1957. They raised their three children in Mahwah, New Jersey and later moved to Vermont, finally building their home in Center Rutland where she resided until her passing.
While diminutive in size, Dottie’s personality was larger than life. Dottie loved to travel and entertain. She and DV owned a travel agency in New Jersey and traveled the world. She loved to host parties in her home — it was a rare weekend in the summer that camp was not full of family and friends.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; Aunt Adele; brother, Douglas Snow; sister, Jean Averill; beloved husband of 53 years, Donald Vilmar; and her son, David Vilmar.
She is survived by her children, Donald S. Vilmar (Pam) of Bolton Landing; daughter, Deborah Sikorak (John) of Queensbury; son’s widow, Kathy Vilmar of Glens Falls; grandchildren, Emily Vilmar, Brian Vilmar (Samantha), Kyle Vilmar, Kyle Sikorak, Brittany Austad (Hector) and Julie Sikorak; and great-grandson, Noa.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Union Church of Proctor in Proctor, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shrine’s Hospital for Children – Boston, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
