CORINTH — Donald A. Towers, 84, of Paris Avenue, passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on June 5, 1933 in Corinth, he was the son of the late Harold Sr. and Mabel (Gurney) Towers.
He joined the United States Air Force on Dec. 28, 1950, serving during the Korean War in French Morocco. He received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal until his discharge Nov. 11, 1954.
Donnie married Berta Mae Gray on Nov. 19, 1955 in Corinth and the couple has resided on Paris Avenue for many years.
He was employed at the International Paper Co. in Corinth for 41 years, until his retirement as a foreman in 1995. He was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club.
Donnie was a charter member of the Adirondack Bluegrass League, serving as a board member and promoted the Corinth Bluegrass Festival on Bogg’s farm in Corinth for 11 years. He also was a member of the Bluegrass Bandits along with Roger Ide, Uncle John Orto and Red Jenkins for many years.
He enjoyed family dinners, sports, attending Bluegrass Festivals and entertaining entertainers. He loved time spent with his family.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister, Kathryn Lavery; and by his son-in-law, Otto Clark.

Survivors besides his wife of 61 years include three children, Dawn Clark Williams (Ron) of Queensbury, Lee Towers (Linda) of Corinth and Leslie Melville (Russ) of Corinth; eight grandchildren, Shanna Washburn of Landsdowne, Pennsylvania, Dylan Clark of Gansevoort, Tara Reid of Queensbury, Kennedy Williams-Smith of Hudson Falls, Mercedes Williams of Queensbury, Ashleigh Towers of St. Paul, Minnesota, Elizabeth Melville of Corinth and Andrea Pidgeon of Hadley; eight great-grandchildren, Damien, Charlie, Madison, Bailey, Alyssa, Ariyanna, Axl and Dillon; seven siblings, Pauline Densmore of Corinth, Harold Towers, Jr. (Beverly) of Corinth, Gene Towers (Shelly) of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Veda Boggs (Russell) of Corinth, Terrance Towers (Patsy) of Corinth, Richard Towers of Anchorage, Alaska and Carolyn Watulak (Gary) of Rutland, Vermont; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave. Corinth, with Pastor Russell Melville officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Members of the Corinth Vol. Fire Dept. will pay their respects at 5:45 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Members of the Horace D. Washburn American Legion Post 533 will conduct a brief service at 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
A committal service will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Gray, Tina Williams, the staff on Tower 6 and the ICU at Glens Falls Hospital for their kindness and care given to Donnie during his illness.
