SOUTH GLENS FALLS — David Wilson Sexton Sr., 98, passed away on Aug. 31, 2018 in Plantation, Florida. He was comforted bedside by his son, David W Sexton Jr., and David Jr.’s wife, Antonia Sexton.
David is survived by his grandchildren, David W. Sexton III (Marla Baquerizo) and Camille Sexton-Ehrler (Markus); as well as his brother-in-law, Jesse Maffuid; his sister-in-law, Janet Maffuid Leavy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmelita Maffuid Sexton; his parents, Ronald and Martha Wilson Sexton; and sisters, Elizabeth, Barbara and Marjorie Sexton.
David was born in South Glens Falls on June 17, 1920 and lived in Bolton Landing. He moved back to South Glens Falls for high school, where he met Carmelita.
He joined the Army National Guard and was stationed in Oceanside, California, where he married Carmelita on Aug. 7, 1943. David shipped to England with the 90th Infantry. His Regiment (359th) deployed on Utah Beach on Day 1.
His career involved many positions in politics, including weights and weasures director for Saratoga County, head of the Republican Party in Moreau and later served as sargent-at-arms in the New York Assembly under Governor Nelson Rockefeller. His most revered moments were those spent in the Adirondacks on Lake George. He was past commander of Lake George Power Squadron, and his hobbies included woodcarving, fishing and antique gun restoration. Dave and Carmelita moved to Plantation, Florida in 2014, reluctantly leaving their lifetime home to be closer to family.
David will be interred at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
