CORINTH - Leslie B. "Sharky" York, 85, of Fuller Road, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Saratoga Hospital following a short illness.
Born on Jan. 12, 1924, in the town of Day, he was the son of the late Nuel and Tilda (Shippee) York.
Mr. York graduated from Hadley-Luzerne High School in 1944.
He married Rita C. Eggleston on May 6, 1961 in Corinth. The couple resided in Corinth for many years. She died Feb. 26, 1998, following 36 years of marriage.
Mr. York was employed at the International Paper Company in Corinth for 42 years, working as a head super calender operator until his retirement in 1985. He was also a member of the IP Quarter Century Club.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Corinth. He was also a member of Brookhaven Golf Club for many years and was a member of several bowling leagues. During his youth, Sharky was a great athlete, especially in baseball.
Mr. York enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling and hunting.

Besides his wife and his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Milton York; one sister, Evelyn Young; one sister-in-law, Jane York; and one nephew, Michael York.
Survivors include one sister, Shirley Wendell and her husband, Russ, of the town of Day; one brother, Richard York, of the town of Day; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Densmore Funeral Home, 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth, with the Rev. Joseph Bradford, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Corinth, officiating.
Burial will be at Lynwood Cemetery, Hadley.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
