HADLEY -- Paul J. LeBarron, 88, of LeBarron Road, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2010, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla.

Born on March 12, 1921, in Corinth, he was the eldest of nine children of Elwin W. and Mary (Jones) LeBarron.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was among the first soldiers to land at Normandy. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Bronze Star. On Nov. 7, 2001, he was awarded the NYS Liberty award by Sen. Hugh Farley.

He married Jennie June Reynolds on April 29, 1942, in Johnsburg. Mrs. LeBarron passed away on March 24, 1994, following 52 years of marriage.

Paul was employed as a mill wright at International Paper Company in Corinth for many years prior to his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of the mill.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family was very important to him and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a life member of the Hudson Sacandaga VFW Post No. 5836 Hadley and a member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862, Lake Luzerne.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Jennie LeBarron; one sister, Jean Atkins; four brothers, Kenneth LeBarron, Ronald LeBarron, Franklin LeBarron, and Ralph LeBarron.

Survivors include his four children: Lorraine Tooker and her husband, Al, of Hadley, Paula Brueckner and her husband, Marvin, of Albany, Catherine LeBarron of Jacksonville, Fla., and William LeBarron and his wife, Wendy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren: Mark Tooker and his wife, Beth, of Greenfield Center, Denise Williams and her husband, Shea, of Hadley; Theresa McClenehan and her husband, Jacob, of Albany, Stephen Brueckner of Albany, Sgt. Eric Brueckner presently stationed in England, Melissa Guerra and her husband, Kris, of Jacksonville, Fla., J. Ryan LeBarron of Jacksonville, Fla., Kevin LeBarron and his wife, Catherine, of Mississippi and W. David LeBarron of Jacksonville; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Brust of Middle Grove; two brothers, Elwin LeBarron Jr. and his wife, Sophie and William C. LeBarron all of Hartwell, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officaiting.

Burial will be in Lynwood Cemetery, Hadley.
