Her family moved to Lindenhurst, where she graduated high school as the salutatorian. She then attended SUNY Oneonta, where she obtained her teaching degree. She later received her master’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.

She married Douglas Robert Wickes and, after his death, spent 14 years raising her son before marrying Frank R. Fowler, to whom she was married for 33 years before his death in 2012.

Ann taught second grade in Ticonderoga and then worked as a reading specialist in Schroon Lake and Moriah. She retired from teaching in Moriah in 1985. During retirement in Green Valley, she served as a classroom assistant at Sopori Elementary School for several years.

Ann was a longtime resident of Ticonderoga. She and her husband Frank were also residents of Hague and longtime winter residents of Green Valley, Ariz.

She was active in the Ticonderoga Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and with Ticonderoga Country Club, where she was an avid golfer for many years. Ann volunteered for the town library and served on the board of Ticonderoga Country Club. She was also the secretary for Green Valley Townhouse IV for many years.

She is survived by her sisters, Margaret (Peg) Swanson of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Barbara Forziati of Williamsburg, Va.; and her son, Roger A. Wickes (Carolyn) of Kingsbury; and stepchildren, Diane Fowler (Ken) of Menands, Joan Thomas (Bill) of Burnsville, N.C., and Frank Fowler (Jane) of Crown Point.
