Schuylerville Community Theater is pleased to announce auditions for Disney’s ever popular musical, Mary Poppins. Mary Poppinsis an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft. The charismatic chimney sweep Bert introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again.
The show dates will be May 4th, 5th and 6th at the Schuylerville High School. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, January 9th at 7PM for children only; and on Wednesday, January 10th at 7PM for adults only (ages 16 and up.) Auditions will be held at the Saratoga Town Office Building on the corner of routes 29 and 4.
Those who audition will be required to sing selections from the show (strongly preferred, but can sing a song of your choice to demonstrate your vocal abilities) as well as read from the script. Please wear comfortable clothing so you can learn a dance combination.
We will be casting the leading children, Michael (who is 8 to 9 yrs old) and Jane (10 to 12 yrs old) Banks, at the Tuesday auditions and review the opportunities for the children’s chorus. The adult leads include chimney sweep Bert (baritone/dancer), Mary Poppins (mezzo soprano/dancer), George Banks (baritone), and Winifred Banks (mezzo soprano.) We will also fill four male and four female featured roles from those who audition (ages from young adult to mature adult.) Additional characters will be selected from all who audition. Further information about character descriptions can be found on our website at scttheater.org.
Those who are interested in chorus do not need to audition. Please attend the auditions or contact one of the SCT members to let us know your interest. Rehearsal schedule will be posted on the website at scttheater.org following auditions. Initially, rehearsals will be two nights a week and Sunday afternoons, increasing as time gets closer to the show.
