Truck stop

Tabassum “Toby” Sheikh, owner of the new Queensbury Truck Stop, stands outside his recently opened business. His store has a pizza shop and a Dunkin’ Donuts already open, and a third vendor, a liquor store, is in the works. His gas station has 16 pumps with a variety of fuel choices.

QUEENSBURY — A new gas station with 16 pumps and three other businesses inside is open and gaining momentum quickly on the corner of Ridge Road and Route 149.

Owner Tabassum “Toby” Sheikh officially opened the Queensbury Truck Stop on Feb. 15 and has a pizza shop and a Dunkin’ Donuts already open. A third vendor, a liquor store, is in the works.

Plans for the truck stop were announced last summer.

His store, which focuses on large trucks, has a full bathroom and shower as well as a washer and dryer for truck drivers.

“We offer a lot … it’s much bigger than normal gas stations,” Sheikh said.

Sheikh offers eight different products on his pumps, including racing fuel, on- and off-road diesel and diesel exhaust fluid, along with the usual gasoline options.

A separate island with eight pumps is for tractor-trailers and large cars, with parking for the trucks.

On Monday afternoon, many of the pumps were being used.

Sheikh said his business hasn’t been affected by the Stewart’s Shop across the road, which was recently updated.

The Stewart’s station has eight gas pumps in front.

Sheikh also owns a Gulf gas station in Warrensburg.

He currently has 18 employees on the payroll for his new store.
