While taking a tour of the old Masonic Temple that William Nikas is redeveloping into the Sandy Hill Arts Center, I got to check out the basement of the building, complete with an old mechanical elevator. It is amazing that those actually carried people.
The old elevator shaft is being filled in for fire safety and a modern elevator installed.
I noticed another interesting tidbit, a scrap of The Post-Star from 1916 in the wall. It must have been used as insulation or some type of filler material.
It is nice that people were reading The Post-Star back then.
