I’m torn on whether to recommend anyone watch “Hell or High Water.”
The inescapable fact is that Blues Brothers did it better.
This is the dramatic, dark, “real-life” version of that beloved comedy. Two brothers steal from banks to pay off an unfair reverse mortgage pushed upon their dying mother.
Naturally, the police chase them and people die.
It was a moderately-good movie, but I just couldn’t forget the Blues Brothers comparisons.
I enjoyed the bank-as-villain idea, but it wasn’t fully fleshed out. That could have elevated the movie to something unique.
Instead, it just felt like a tired cowboy movie that had been dusted off for the 21st century.
