I was persuaded to buy a Reese’s peanut butter cup (even though I don’t like them) yesterday because of a unique sign at the Family Dollar in South Glens Falls.

The sign begged customers to help the workers get a weekend off by buying the candy.

Naturally, I had to know more.

Turns out, the boss bought 40 cases of the peanut butter cups and told the workers that whoever sold the most would get a weekend off.

Not a paid weekend, mind you. Just a weekend.

Everybody else will still have to work that weekend as normal.

I had imagined that the effort would lead to one person getting a paid weekend off, or maybe the whole store closing so everybody could relax. I was thinking kind thoughts about the boss.

Now I think a retail job is even worse than I had previously imagined.
