Here's a nice sign of spring — tree sales!

The Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District's tree and shrub sale is going on now.

The deadline for tree orders is Friday, March 15, but if you miss it, the first 50 folks who show up at the office on Friday, April 26 will be given either barefoot elderberry or ninebark seedlings. The office is located at 394 Schroon River Road, Warrensburg.

That's also order pick-up day, and if you forgot to place an order, there will also be extra seedlings for sale.

The giveaways are part of the district's attempt to deter theft, after leftover saplings were stolen in 2018 from a 400 square-foot field plot outside the Warrensburg office.

Some of the plants for sale include Eastern hemlock, black tupelo, American cranberry, Northern spy and jonamac apple trees, and Bartlett and Anjou pear trees.

Orders can be placed at For more information contact Dean Moore at (518) 623-3119 or

The Saratoga County Soil and Water Conservation District also has a tree and shrub sale going on.

Depending on availability, there are evergreens, deciduous trees, wildflower mixes and several fruit varieties to choose from on the order form.

Information and order forms can be picked up at the office, 50 West High St., Ballston Spa, NY 12020, sent by emailing, via the district's Facebook page or website.

Pre-orders are due by April 1. Distribution days are from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 26 and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 27 at the 4H Training Center, 556 Middle Line Road, Ballston Spa.

Finally, you can get your tree and shrub fix from the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District as well.

Again, there's lots to choose from, but it's also first-come, first-serve. There are conifers, hardwoods, fruit and nut trees and various packets of seeds.

Orders have to be in by March 25 and will be available for pickup from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26 or 9 a.m. to noon on April 27 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Order forms are available online or contact the district with questions at (518) 692-9940 Ext. 5.
