Legislation U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, introduced May 17 to extend the federal Perkins Loan college financial aid program for two years continues to build momentum.
The legislation gained 14 new co-sponsors on Wednesday, after gaining 12 co-sponsors on Tuesday, according to the Library of Congress government information website.
The legislation -- HR 2482 -- had 40 co-sponsors from 19 states and the District of Columbia, as of Thursday -- 30 Democrats and 10 Republicans.

- Linda Sanchez, D-Calif.; Dwight Evans, D-Pa.; Albio Sires, D-N.J.; Robert Brady, D-Pa.; Marcy Kaplur, D-Ohio; Judy Chu, D-Calif.; Adriano Espaillat, D-Manhattan; Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring; Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif.; Tom Cole, R-Okla.; Mike Kelly, R-Pa.; Katherine Clark, D-Mass.; Belo O'Rourke, D-Texas; Robert Scott, D-Va.
