Democratic congressional candidate Mike Derrick had eight fans on his new Mike Derrick for Congress Facebook page at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
At 4:15 p.m., he was up to 61 fans.
“We’ll be running sort of a modern campaign, if you will. But I think, also, this won’t be a great big media show,” Derrick said in a telephone interview on Wednesday.
“We will be running a campaign which is long on substance. And it’s not going to be defined by the number of hits, the number of posts, the number of fans,” he said. “I want to talk about things that matter because at the end of the day that’s what keeps families together and puts food on the table and allows people to live good, decent, productive lives. And I think some times we get away from that, not just in this district but in other parts of the country I’ve lived in.”
Derrick, a retired Army colonel from Peru, in Clinton County, is seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, in November 2016.
The Green Party candidate is Matt Funiciello, a bread company owner and radio talk show host from Glens Falls.
