If you haven't gotten a deer yet, you have today and tomorrow in the Southern Zone provided you are toting a bow or muzzleloader. Northern Zone muzzleloader season ended Saturday.
The early arrival of winter has certainly made for an interesting end to big game seasons. The snow caused deer to yard up already in some areas, and guys I have talked to have seen very little movement over the past couple of weeks.
It will be interesting to see what the season's numbers look like. It seems like many of the bucks that were taken were sizable, but there were many hunters who were shut out. It seems like the long winter of 2013-14 did a job on the numbers of younger deer, and unfortunately this winter is starting out as a harsh one, too.
I had to take a trip up to Maine this weekend for family reasons, and found ice fishing season on smaller lakes and ponds in full swing in central Maine. It won't be too long before it is here as well.
