Mountains across the region turned on their snow guns to take advantage of the current cold snap in preparation for opening day.
Whiteface Mountain fired up the snow guns on Tuesday and is anticipating a Nov. 24 opening day.
Gore Mountain got snowmaking operations underway Thursday on Showcase below the Adirondack Express II. No formal opening day has been announced, but it typically falls around Thanksgiving.
If you can't wait to get some early season turns in, Killington Resort opened to the public on Thursday with skiing and riding on two trails on the upper mountain. Skiers and riders will ride the gondola up to the peak and then walk over to the North Ridge area.
For those not quite ready for turns West Mountain's Ski Swap is this weekend.
The consignment sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the main lodge.
If you have items such as gently used skis, snowboard, boots, poles, helmets and other soft goods they may be dropped off from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
All proceeds from the sale benefit the West Mountain School, a nonprofit, with safety equipment, supplies and scholarships.
West Mountain Sports tuning shop will also open for the season to coincide with the annual sale.
