Mother Nature gave us our first dose of winter on Friday night and several state-run ski mountains fired up snowmaking operations in anticipation for the season.

Another round of winter weather is coming Tuesday night and it won't be long before you are carving along.

According to a ORDA news release, opening day is tentatively set for Nov. 23.

  • Gore Mountain started making snow at the Nordic Center at the Ski Bowl and at the base area.
  • At Whiteface, which is coming off its longest season ever, snowmaking started on Excelsior, Summit Express, Upper and Lower Valley as well as Fox and Mixing Bowl over the weekend.

A couple of Vermont mountains have already started skiing and riding. As of Monday, Killington is on ski day 25 and Mount Snow has been open the past couple of weekends with others not far behind.
