Gore Mountain

Skiers and riders make their way down Ruby Run on Gore Mountain during opening weekend. The mountain resumes daily operations on Friday.

With the recent snowy weather pattern and bitter cold expected on Thursday it may seem more like the Christmas holiday than Thanksgiving.

Ski areas across the region are showing trail counts that seem to reflect the December holiday as well.

Last weekend, skiers and riders were able to get their legs back under them with another big weekend of skiing and riding on tap if the stores do not lure them away.

According to ORDA, Gore Mountain opened with top-to-bottom skiing and riding on 12 trails and even some in the glades.

On Friday, the mountain will offer 23 trails and the High Peaks Chair.

Varying terrain of groomed runs with man-made snow and natural conditions can be found across the mountain and the Nordic Ski Center is offering two kilometers of cross-country and snowshoeing.

Whiteface is planning to have 24 trails for Friday which has grown considerably from its six trails on opening weekend.
