Santa's ski or ride free

Skiers and riders hit the slopes last year during Santas Ski for Free Day at Whiteface Mountain. This year's event is Sunday.

Helmet, boots, goggles, gloves and Santa suit — check!

The last item will get you a free lift ticket Sunday at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort.

Some stipulations apply if you plan to hit the slopes as Mr. or Mrs. Claus. Individuals must participate in a group photo and arrive by 10 a.m..

Discounted lift tickets will also be available for those who do not have a red suit by bringing a toy valued at more than $10 or a gently used winter coat to donate. Participants will receive 50 percent off a lift ticket.

According to a news release, the toys will be distributed through the Boy Scouts of America and the Saranac Lake High School Key Club will deliver the coats to individuals in need.

Some lake effect snow and a storm making its way up the eastern seaboard may even give these Santa Clause some fresh tracks if they stay on the nice list.

In Queensbury, West Mountain had the snowguns firing again on Friday in anticipation to open next week. The weather looks like it will cooperate to lay down some man-made snow.
