SCHUYLERVILLE -- Schuylerville was tested Friday, but managed to sweep Fonda, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24, in a Class C opening-round match of the Section II Girls Volleyball Tournament.
Kelsey Cruikshank led sixth-seeded Schuylerville (9-7) with 10 points, four aces and three digs, while Catie McCloud added eight points, four kills and three digs. Jade Williams contributed 13 assists, four blocks and three digs.
Katie Kietzmann led Fonda with eight points, two aces and six kills, while Audrey Guiberson had seven points, 12 kills and one block.
Schuylerville plays Mechanicville in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Schenectady Christian 3, Hoosic Valley 0
SCHENECTADY -- Senior Heidi Frazer led the host Falcons with 10 kills and two blocks in their 25-20, 25-23, 25-12 victory over the Indians.
Kristen Goodrich added 16 points, six kills and one block.
Schenectady Christian plays Maple Hill in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Maple Hill 3, Saratoga Catholic 2
CASTLETON -- Maple Hill came out on top in a close sectional opener against Saratoga Catholic.
The Saints finished 9-9 overall. Game scores were 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-12.
Spa Catholic's Cate Mensler contributed five aces, two kills and 15 points. Jen Diggins had five aces, five kills and nine points; and Kate Lenz made six kills. Alex Kirby added 13 assists, and
Marie Sullivan managed three aces and seven points.
