BRAMPTON, Ontario — Brian Ward and Pierre-Luc Mercier scored late third-period goals that lifted the Adirondack Thunder to a 4-2 victory over Brampton on Sunday.
The Thunder won the weekend home-and-home series with Brampton and have now won four of their last five games. They continue to hold second place of the ECHL’s North Division, four points behind first-place Manchester.
Brampton’s Chris Leveille tied the game at 2-2 midway through the third period, but Ward scored on the power play for Adirondack with 4:29 left. Mercier scored his second goal of the game less than two minutes later.
Mackenzie Blackwood made 28 saves in goal for his first ECHL win.
Mercier got the Thunder on the board 8:59 into the game with his ninth goal of the season, converting a rebound off Paul Rodrigues’ shot. Brampton tied the game a few minutes later, but Rodrigues gave Adirondack a 2-1 lead with the only goal of the second period.
The Thunder outshot 17-8 in the second period and 35-30 in the game.
Adirondack’s very busy schedule continues with road games on Wednesday and Friday of this week before a home game against Reading on Saturday. The Thunder then hit the road again for a Sunday game.
