READING, Pa. — Chris Nell made 35 saves and Shane Conacher led a balanced attack with a goal and two assists as the Adirondack Thunder beat Reading 6-2 on Sunday.
The Thunder snapped a short two-game losing streak by beating the Royals for the first time in six tries this season. The Thunder pulled into a tie with Reading for third place in the ECHL’s North Division.
Six players scored goals as Adirondack posted its seventh win in 15 road games. Pierre-Luc Mercier recorded three assists and Nell picked up his first ECHL victory.
The visitors went 2 for 3 on the power play on goals by Eric Neiley and Ben Murphy. Murphy’s goal came during a five-on-three situation early in the third period.
The Thunder outshot the Royals 13-8 in the first period and took a 3-0 lead on goals by Terrence Wallin, Conacher and Neiley. Reading got one back on a second-period power play, but Conor Riley scored at 13:23 for a 4-1 Adirondack lead.
Paul Rodrigues scored an empty-net goal for the Thunder in the final minute.
The Thunder play three times this week — including home appearances on Wednesday and Saturday — before a short Christmas break.
