ROCHESTER -- Two of the Adirondack Phantoms’ off-and-on issues cropped up in Friday night’s 3-1 loss to Rochester.

The Phantoms struggled on special teams, allowing two power-play goals and one shorthanded, and continued to fire off shots without scoring, with one goal on 42 shots. They have now lost four straight, passing their longest winning streak of the season.

Adirondack outshot Rochester 25-6 in the second period, but it was the Americans who came away with two goals to the Phantoms’ none. That has been an issue for the Phantoms lately, and again they made mistakes on which the opponent capitalized.

Defenseman Jeff Dimmen was called for roughing when he jumped to Jason Akeson’s defense after a clean hit. That led to a power-play goal by Kevin Porter, which gave Rochester a 2-1 lead.

Later in the period, Porter made a move to beat Sean Couturier at the Rochester blue line and scored easily on a two-on-one for a short-handed goal.

The Phantoms had an extended five-on-three power-play opportunity immediately following that goal, but could not do anything with it or any of their other four power plays. Adirondack has scored on only three of 25 power plays in its current losing streak.

The first and third periods were evenly played. Rochester scored first, a power-play goal courtesy of Brian Flynn at 3:44, but the Phantoms quickly responded. Couturier scored his seventh goal of the season on the rebound of anAkeson shot to tie it up two shifts later.

Akeson now has a point in six of his seven games with the Phantoms this season. Matt Konan was credited with the secondary assist.
