HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Adirondack Phantoms struggled to get going offensively and were shut out 3-0 by Connecticut.

Cal Heeter made 29 saves in the game but fell victim to three rebounds.

Brandon Segal put the Whale on the board four minutes into the game, pouncing on a rebound and sending the puck five-hole.

Connecticut added to its lead with a power-play goal at 6:28 of the second period. Marek Hrivik had a partial breakaway, but Heeter made the save with his shoulder. Chad Kolarik grabbed the rebound in the slot and sent it past the netminder.

Tommy Grant put it away for Connecticut with seven minutes to play on another rebound. Blake Parlett took a shot from the point that Heeter got his glove on but couldn’t catch it.

Both Brandon Manning and Danny Syvret, the two alternate captains, have said the team needs to give its goaltenders better support. But the Phantoms failed to do that once again. In Heeter’s last six starts, the Phantoms have scored more than two goals only once.

Adirondack had a few chances, including a shorthanded opportunity by Sean Couturier and Harry Zolnierczyk in the second period, but couldn’t complete the plays on multiple odd-man rushes. The Phantoms only took five shots in the third period.

Cameron Talbot made 25 saves for the Whale for his first shutout of the season.

Adirondack and Connecticut were tied for last in the Northeast Division, but the Phantoms now sit there alone.
