NORFOLK, Va. -- Michael Leighton held off the Norfolk onslaught for as long as he could. But it wasn't enough to escape with another victory at Scope Arena on Saturday.

Tyler Johnson scored twice in the final eight minutes, including the eventual game-winner with 30 seconds remaining, and the first-place Admirals pulled out a 2-1 win to end the Adirondack Phantoms' four-game winning streak before a crowd of 4,095.

The Phantoms (13-8-0-1) were clinging to a lead Jason Akeson gave them with a power-play goal 5:01 into the second period.

That was about all the offense the Phantoms generated. They were outshot 36-16 and had no more than six shots in any period.

Leighton kept them in with his stellar play in goal. He stopped the first 28 Admirals' shots before Johnson beat him with an odd goal to tie it at 1.

Johnson fired a centering pass across the ice and it banked off the skate of Phantoms' defenseman Andy Thomas and kicked in backdoor past Leighton.

The goal ended the Phantoms' shutout streak at 105 minutes, 18 seconds against the league's top offense. The Phantoms hadn't allowed a goal since early in the first period on Friday.

With less than three minutes remaining, Adirondack's Oliver Lauridsen picked up a delay of game penalty for shooting the puck over the glass in his own zone. The Phantoms protested the call, claiming the puck had been touched by a Norfolk stick, which would have negated the penalty.

The Phantoms' penalty kill, which hasn't allowed a goal in five games, needed to come up big once more. They got through the two minutes, but three seconds after the penalty expired, Johnson scored the go-ahead goal.

The Phantoms were without defenseman Oskars Bartulis for the second straight night. Bartulis suffered an injury during practice this week. The type and severity of the injury is unknown.

Phantoms defenseman Brandon Manning made his season debut.
