Although we are currently in the throes of a blizzard as March comes in like a lion, the harbingers of spring are unmistakable. The first red-wing blackbird male arrived almost a week ago, large flocks of Canada geese have begun to stop by for a rest in the river before continuing on north, several turkey vultures have been wheeling overhead, the bluebirds are checking out the boxes and there have even been small groups of ladybugs clustering on the outside of the house.

Just before the storm hit, there were several large mixed flocks of blackbirds, including some females, seen in the Glens Falls area. We have definitely made it through this winter.
