WHEELING, W.Va. — Cody Wydo and Freddie Tiffels each scored two goals as the Wheeling Nailers beat the Adirondack Thunder 6-4 on Tuesday.
The loss was the Thunder’s first since Nov. 4. They had won three games and had a shootout loss in another before Tuesday, all on the road. Their month-long road trip continues this week with games at Norfolk, Virginia on Thursday and Manchester, New Hampshire on Saturday.
The Thunder won’t play at home again until Nov. 25.
Down 1-0 to start Tuesday’s second period, the Thunder took the lead on goals by Dylan Olsen and Eric Neiley. But Wheeling scored the game’s next four goals, including two by Wydo, for a 5-2 lead.
Terrence Wallin and Shane Conacher scored goals for Adirondack in the third period. It was a good day for the Thunder on special teams — they went 2 for 5 on the power play and Wallin’s late goal came while the team was shorthanded.
Drew Fielding was in goal for the Thunder and gave up all six goals on 28 shots.
On Monday, goaltender Connor Ingram was recalled to Syracuse of the AHL along with defenseman Matthew Spencer. Goalie Nick Riopel was sent back to Adirondack by Syracuse.
Ingram was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period of Nov. 6-12. He went 2-0-1 with a goals-against average of 1.30 during that stretch.
