GLENS FALLS — The State Girls Volleyball Tournament will be loaded with both Section II teams and returning teams when it gets underway on Saturday at Cool Insuring Arena.

For the third straight year, all five classes will have a Section II representative, including local schools Argyle and Hudson Falls. Shenendehowa, Burnt Hills and Voorheesville also qualified.

The tournament begins Saturday with pool play at 8:30 a.m. (for classes AA, A and C) and 3 p.m. (for classes B and D). Each team will play once the other three teams in its class. The top two teams will advance to the championship matches on Sunday.

There are lots of teams returning from last year’s tournament, including every Section II team except Voorheesville. Also back from last year are Connetquot, Walter Panas, Kings Park, Williamsville East, Owego, Tuxedo and Panama. All four teams in Class A are returning schools.

Walter Panas and Panama were state champions last year.

John Glenn is coming to Glens Falls in Class B, and while it’s not a returning team, the school has six state titles in its history.

One team that won’t be returning is Eden, which had won eight straight state titles and 14 overall. Eden was beaten by Portville during the Section VI tournament.

The volleyball final four is being played in Glens Falls for the 11th straight year.
