GRANVILLE — Granville boys basketball coach Grant Sharrow admitted it wasn’t a pretty victory, but “a win’s a win,” he said.

The host Golden Horde held off Hadley-Luzerne, 49-44, in a low-scoring final of the American Legion Christmas Tournament on Thursday.

Matt Parker and Jarett Williams led Granville (5-1) with 14 points apiece. The Horde held the Eagles’ leading scorer, Connor Backus, to just 11 points. Danny McMahon led Hadley-Luzerne with 12.

“We knew Backus was a shooter, and McMahon,” Sharrow said. “Backus got into foul trouble, then picked up his fourth in the middle of the third quarter. He stayed in, but he wasn’t as aggressive as he usually is.”

Sharrow said his team pressed the entire game, but felt the effects of its win over Burr and Burton Academy on Wednesday.

“We were gassed from the night before, and it showed,” Sharrow said.
