While I agree with The Post-Star's editorial Sunday that Warren County has great potential to increase tourism, the core issue is not a lack of information or the need for additional studies. Warren County has had multiple studies which it has paid for with the goal of helping it run tourism better. If the supervisors decide they do not like the conclusions of the studies and do not like the advice of the business community because the supervisors know better, we arrive at the point we stand now. Flat hotel occupancy for the last seven years, tourist spending increasing only at the rate of inflation, while our peers our doing much better. The issues raised in these studies will not be fixed by sponsored posts on social media or an improved website. There is an underlying need to develop an organization that our many chambers of commerce and businesses can get behind because it is delivering a clear and unified vision for what tourism is and where it is headed in Warren County. Until we have that, everyone will continue paddling in their own direction, and the net result will be the same as we have had for the last seven years, getting nowhere.
