The decision by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to vote to release the letter written by David Nunes, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, is as craven and self-serving as can be imagined. Her excuse that she favors full disclosure is absurd given that she also voted to block the release of the Democratic rebuttal to the Nunes letter. It has been suspected for some time that Stefanik serves at the will of Republican masters in Washington such as Paul Ryan and their monied enablers who financed Stefanik's campaign, but this decision removes all doubt as to who Stefanik serves, and it is not, for sure, the people of the congressional district in the Adirondacks she represents.

The released letter contained classified information regarding the FBI's efforts to track Carter Page, a member of the Trump election committee and a frequent visitor to Russia where he had business interests. The evidence that Trump and his supporters like Stefanik are growing desperate to cover up aspects about his business and personal activities with Russians is becoming compelling. With this latest gross indiscretion, which confronted the opinion of the current director of the FBI, Wray, a Trump appointee at that, and other extensive legal counsel not to release the document constitutes one more piece of evidence for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to use in building the case against Trump that he has obstructed justice on a wholesale basis. Elise Stefanik's conduct is absolutely shameful.
