I recently had a conversation with a friend who lives in an apartment controlled by Schermerhorn Real Estate Holdings. She asked if she could bring some recyclables, as she did not have the availability to recycle at the apartment complex where she resides. That surprised me a bit, so I contacted Schermerhorn Real Estate at their main office and inquired about this. I was told by the person answering the phones that, indeed, recycling is not offered at any of the multiple complexes controlled by Mr. Schermerhorn. All the recyclables go into a common dumpster along with the garbage, then to be either burned or put into a landfill. While I am not privy to the exact number of rental units controlled by Mr. Schermerhorn, I would guess an accurate count would be in the hundreds, at least. I must say that I am frankly shocked that Mr. Schermerhorn thinks so little of the environment of the community that built his wealth that he would not supply something as simple as a recycling option. Does he really think so little of this community? Do you, Mr. Schermerhorn?
