Don’t forgive my naivety! I really believed we only had three branches of government, namely our legislators, the Supreme Court and our president. However, most recently I now know there is a fourth, the National Rifle Association. Frankly, I was shocked to learn of the discounts from aviation travel to life insurance that a member is entitled to, leaving myself and others who are nonmembers to subsidize these discounts.
The one thing which has always been obvious is the influence the NRA has had on politics. The most recent example is the incredible threat of the Georgia governor to penalize Delta Airlines for its decision to no longer associate its airline with the NRA. Out of curiosity, I went to the NRA website to determine its membership, only to discover that is unavailable! So here we are in a so-called democracy, yet a large number of our legislators, as well as our president, are members of the NRA, whose core belief is that the Second Amendment is above and beyond all others.
I believe myself and millions more of our citizens have been duped in believing that we live in a free society established by our Founding Fathers which established our so-called checks and balances. However, now, and I speak for myself only, I personally believe I was brainwashed to believe so!
