After reading Ms. Rocca’s letter to the editor, I thought she made a good point about how reputable newspapers should band together to combat the false and misleading information that Fox News puts out to their viewers. We need decent and honest newspapers now more than ever. We now have a president that gets his news from the Enquirer newspaper and Fox News. Not only are they poisoning the public with hateful and divisive rhetoric, but the leader of our country is bent on being among the misinformed as well. I am a newspaper fanatic, which I inherited from my dad. My dad read three newspapers; the Daily News, Daily Mirror, and Journal American every day, and it was my job to get the newspapers for him every night, and I was glad to do it. Newspapers back then were only 5 cents. As a grownup, I never miss reading the daily papers, no matter where I am or what state I’m in. I have been known to travel 20 miles one way for a newspaper when I was in the Alagash wilderness. That’s how much I count on the news. I count on them bringing me the truth and nothing but the facts that Fox never does. My question is this: Where is our Serpico? You know, the Serpico who was a good cop who wanted to weed out the bad cops. We need editors from respectable news organizations to band together to weed out bad news and misinformation. In these times with so many bad men out there, we need the good ones to outshine the bad. What do you say, Mr. Tingley? Will you be our Serpico and rally others in your business to do the right thing and put an end to such divisiveness?
