Veterans Day is near, and as secretary of Hudson Falls American Legion Auxiliary Post 574 and all Post members, we wish to thank those who have published, contributed to or been present at veterans’ programs.
Summer season began with a rainy Memorial Day, but we paraded and held ceremonies at four sites (thanks to Ace Car Club for providing cars that day and another rainy day ceremony in Fort Ann). We thank everyone who attended the Vietnam Memorial program at SUNY Adirondack; the Glens Falls Symphony and Glens Falls City Band for magnificent programs honoring our Armed Forces; Legion Posts that sent their Color Guards, Riders, Sons of the Legion, Patriot Guard and Auxiliaries to parades and events, including the Vietnam Traveling Wall in Bolton; veterans who volunteer at veterans’ funerals locally and Saratoga National Cemetery; participants in the Gold Star Mother’s Day Walk in remembrance of Sgt. Kristie Roberts and others gone before us.
We appreciate the Moreau Fund Band volunteers who sing in nursing homes and centers where veterans are recognized. Thanks to Granville’s Phil Hoyt, his family and veterans who participated in his Sixth Annual Operation Adopt A Soldier benefit concert. Kudos to Col. Samuel J. Hall, Ret., for arranging for several of us to be on the discussion panel at Crandall Library following the showing of scenes from the Ken Burns documentary on Vietnam. Special thanks to folks who buy poppies, raffles, attend Legion breakfasts, dinners, basket parties, picker’s jams and bingo. These fundraisers support our veterans’ programs; Boys State, Girls State, oratorical contests and more. Thank a veteran and attend a Veterans Day ceremony! “Lest we forget.”
