In this deeply divided political climate, many Americans are wondering if their voices will be heard on Capitol Hill. Is it possible to make a difference? The answer is yes.
Just a few days after the inauguration, the House of Representatives passed the READ Act (H.R. 601), legislation that has the potential to improve the lives of children around the world who don't have access to a quality education. The bill will strengthen the accountability and transparency of U.S. global basic education programs to ensure our investments are working, and improve education services for girls and for children affected by conflict or emergencies.
So don't give up. We can still make good things happen, but Congress needs to hear from us. Now I'm going to roll up my sleeves and start calling my senators about the READ Act. I won't stop until the bill becomes law.
