SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Jon Hunter of Ballston Spa, who previously served as interim superintendent in Lake George, will begin as interim superintendent for South Glens Falls Schools on Jan. 1.
The Board of Education has announced its intention to formally hire Hunter on Dec. 18. He will replace Michael Patton, who will become the superintendent in Saratoga Springs on Jan. 1.
Hunter, who is expected to serve until South Glens Falls hires a new superintendent, will make $500 per day. The district is developing its strategy for hiring a new superintendent.
Since he is retired, the school does not have to pay health insurance or contribute to the state retirement system.
Prior to retiring almost four years ago, Dr. Hunter served as superintendent of schools for the Fairport Central School District in Rochester. Hunter also served as the superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District for six years and as the high school principal in the Bethlehem Central School District for 13 years.
Since retirement, Hunter has continued to be active in education administration, including serving as interim superintendent at Lake George Central School District in 2016, and as interim deputy superintendent at Rochester City School District in 2017.
