QUEENSBURY — Comedian Will Ferrell and local executive Jim Siplon have something in common, said Queensbury High School Principal Damian Switzer.
Both are role models for discovering unexpected career paths, he told the 291 graduates at the 2017 commencement ceremony Friday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Ferrell, who “describes himself as studious,” was a sports information major, who had a knack for making his college class mates laugh.
One day, on a dare from a classmate, he barged into a literature class dressed as a janitor and said he was there to clean up vomit, Switzer said.
About a month later, Ferrell ran in to the professor and expected to be reprimanded.
Instead, the professor said it was a great stunt, and asked Ferrell to do it again, which led to his repeating the stunt many times.
Siplon, chief operating officer of Just Beverages, a packaged water company in Glens Falls, was a physics major in college who served eight years in the U.S. Air Force and then worked in manufacturing management and sales.
