CHESTER -- A Troy man died Thursday night during a crash on the Northway near Exit 25, according to State Police.

Fadle A. Assalami. 54, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the southbound lanes north of Exit 25, police said.

Police said he was driving a Honda Accord when he lost control around 6:45 p.m., slid off the road and hit a guard rail. His vehicle then ricocheted back into traffic and was hit in the driver's side by a box truck, police said.

Assalami was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, which was headed from Lake Placid to Amsterdam, was not hurt and not charged.

The accident closed the highway in the area for more than 6 hours.

Police reported dozens of accidents on the Northway late Thursday and early Friday but no other serious injuries.
